Experience The Mountains 2010
July 25-31, 2010

Each year since 2002 the Manitoba Section of the Alpine Club has offered to its members one week of exciting alpine adventure in the Mountains. This years trip to the Rogers Pass area will be a joint trip with the Saint Boniface ACC Section, le club d'escalade de Saint Boniface. We previously visited Rogers Pass in 2005 and also had a taste of the fantastic Selkirks last year when we were rained off the Wapta Traverse. The area offers superb scenery and numerous exciting mountaineering destinations, including the outstanding Mount Sir Donald. There are hiking trails and lots of glacier travel. We will be based at the A.O. Wheeler Hut, and will use the Asulkan Hut at a higher elevation with the possibility to use the Sapphire Col Hut, for limited numbers of people, as well. Other objectives include Youngs Peak and the Jupiter range traverse, crossing glaciers and peaks with fantastic views of the Incomappleux valley and surrounding peaks. Further information can be found in Selkirks South by David P Jones and a couple of good maps, one by Murray Toft and the other by Chrismar Mapping Services.

Participants must be members of the ACC Manitoba Section or the Saint Boniface Section who are physically fit and have at least some basic knowledge of ropework and rock climbing, but not necessarily any mountaineering experience. A limited amount of training will be available before the trip in mountaineering techniques and glacier travel. The cost is $450/person and includes hut accommodation and meals (cook provided). Additional costs include, transportation to the Rocky Mountains, a National Park Pass if you take your own vehicle and your personal gear (boots, clothing, backpack and mountaineering gear – some of which can be rented).

There are a limited number of spaces so sign up soon if you are interested! $50 deposit required with full payment due May 25th. Contact: Peter Aitchison (204) 582-0340, Email: aitchis@mts.net.

What is the Alpine Club of Canada?

Founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1906, the Alpine Club of Canada represents the nation's climbing community. Our network of members and facilities offers education, resources, and encouragement so that you can enjoy climbing and other wilderness activities year round.

Now based in Canmore, Alberta, the ACC protects the history and culture of Canada's alpine environments. The ACC develops and supports mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, and hiking programs. The club also maintains backcountry huts in the nation's most spectacular mountain terrain, and helps to preserve your access to wilderness areas across the country.

The club's affiliation with the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) allows you to connect with international climbing organizations and share information about world-wide climbing issues.
